Anne Boleyn was a charismatic and intelligent woman who caught the eye of King Henry VIII. Their romance changed the course of history, prompting England’s break from the Catholic Church so she could become his second wife. Upon giving birth to their daughter, Elizabeth, instead of the longed-for male heir, Henry’s affection soured. Anne was charged with adultery, incest, and treason—and executed at the Tower of London in 1536.
